Importance of Graphite Tubes

The extensive use of graphite in industries across the world due to its impressive characteristics is not something new. Graphite tubes are used by depositing samples in them and heating them to the point of vaporization and atomization. Why is graphite used to manufacture these tubes? Types of Graphite Tubes

The three different types of graphite tubes being used in the industries are as follows;

  1. Resin Bonded Graphite Tube: This one is extruded into desirable sizes and dimensions after combining graphite flour with a resin binder. This results in a non-porous tube that is available at reasonable rates.
  2. Carbon Bonded Graphite Tube: This is manufactured using a combination of resin, graphite flour, and lubricants. It is highly resistant to thermal and mechanical shocks. Its production requires little energy costs making it relatively cheaper than fully graphitized tubes.
  3. Fully Graphitized Tubes: This one has a low thermal expansion rate coupled with increased flexibility and ductility. It is made from the same raw materials as the carbon bonded tube. However, fully graphitized tubes are heated at the temperature of 2800 degrees Celsius in a furnace.
